Kung Hee Fat Choy! Usher in the Year of the Monkey with a Chinese Lion Dance by the Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association at Pearlridge Farmers’ Market this Saturday, 1/23 at 9am. The lions will start at the market, then perform at Pearlridge Downtown Center Court at 10 am and Pearlridge Uptown Center Court at noon.

In Chinese culture, the auspicious lion is believed to bring good luck. The lion embodies a spirit sent down from the heavens to carry out good deeds to please the deities. The Chinese believe that by presenting the customary laisee, a red envelope filled with money, the lion is attracted to dance before them and spread its good fortune among the observers. But be careful about getting too close to the lion before it can see you, let the lion come to you. Remember the lion is an untamed animal unlike any other…bringing good fortune to those who feed it!
