As the Ewa Beach community grew over the years, so have concerns over lead contamination from a century-old target practice center in the middle of the neighborhood, according to a recent Civil Beat article.
The center is a pistol and rifle practice center for the Marines, and after recent lead testing of fish and dust from the area came back positive, concerns are now greater than ever.
Among those alarmed by the results is Ewa Beach Neighborhood Board member and FarmLovers vendor Liam Chinn, who owns Dragon Boy. Chinn is advocating for more tests to be done, in order to better determine the level of risk for lead contamination in the surrounding areas and whether greater changes to the practice center are necessary.
